Santa Fe – Palo Duro Canyon (2017-04-18)
A relatively long drive today and we lost 1h going across to
Texas. It was nice to have a last look at the Santa Fe style houses leaving the
east suburb of Santa Fe. We drove south to reconnect to Hwy 40 and kept going!
The landscape is not so exciting, desert conditions in a plain setting and a
road prairie style… We could see a dog for 3 days if it decided to leave home!
Duro.
What a view as we enter the park and stop at the visitor
center! The visitor centre is also very nice, with displays on the geological
formation of the canyon, fossils, and artefacts. As for many very nice territories
in the US, the canyon was home of indigenous people. It is easy to understand that they would have
made this place home. For a change, the art in that centre is from artists of
different tribes and few locals, not many gadgets made in China.
